M11.7 Zero waste life
After watching the zero waste life video, I looked around me
and found that indeed most of the things that I own are in some way or another
either made of or packaged in plastic. It was incredible to see the amount of
trash that Lauren Singer produced over 3 years. As I’m writing this, I’m
drinking coffee out of a disposable paper cup, eating a salad out of a
disposable plastic container, using a plastic fork and napkins, all of which
will inevitably end in the trash. In about 10 minutes I have produced as much
waste as Lauren has produced in 3 years! It seems like Lauren made life-changing
decision and it definitely impacted her life significantly. Making this life
change would take a lot of effort on my part and I am definitely motivated to
start making small changes and gradually move towards a less wasteful
lifestyle.
Hi Hugo,
ReplyDeleteI was also amazed how little trash she produced in 3 years and it made me think about how much I am producing. Just recently, Recology set a new standard for the recyling bin to be 64 gallons instead of 32 gallons, and are stricter about properly recyling and composting. The changes made me have another trash can in my room just for recyling. This also made me think about how much plastic and paper I'm throwing away every week. I'm glad you are open and motivated to make small changes, and I am as well too.
Hi,
ReplyDeleteHAHA great post. Amazing that while you are writing it you realized how in the wrong you were after gaining the knowledge from this course. You really have to commit to this kind of change and it takes a lot of work. I don't think I can do it but I will make changes, that's for sure. Dan
